Information for grant seekers |
Prospective
applicants for IFRES grants are to respond to the Call for Proposals to
be published in February each year. The Call for Proposals spells out the
thematic priorities relevant to the grant year in question. Though the list
of thematic priorities determined in June 2004 as indicated above is generally
valid for the next three years, there may be slight modifications to the
list from year to year before the next major review of priority themes in
2007. The Call will be published in two Nigerian daily newspapers and on
the IFRES website. Grant seekers are to comply strictly with the stipulated
guidelines for the submission of proposals.

Understanding our programme interests |
| The
programme interests of the foundation are guided by the following considerations: |
| |
| 1.
Proposals
are welcome from any discipline provided there is a clear policy perspective
regardless of the |
sector
of the economy covered by the proposal because of our belief that policy
itself has come to constitute a limiting factor on economic and social development
in Nigeria and other sub-Saharan African countries |
| |
| 2. |
IFRES
supported research must generate knowledge that is problem-solving, practical
and mission- |
| |
oriented,
with demonstrated linear relationship between the knowledge generated from
the research and improved livelihoods of the general populace |
| |
| 3. |
Proposals
must indicate how results from the study leads to better policy formulation,
policy implementation |
| |
or
policy decision that will uplift the living standards of the people |
| |
| 4. |
Research
knowledge should indicate contribution to the capacity of relevant key stakeholders
to take their |
| |
destiny
into their own hands by transforming them from quiet grumblers into active
and effective agenda setters in continuous interaction with policy makers |
| |
| 5. |
Proposals
must be analytically rigorous at the same time that the knowledge generated
can be translated |
| |
into
action with direct impact on livelihoods |
| |
| 6. |
Proposals
must demonstrate visionary grasp of the long term issues confronting the
society |
| |
| 7. |
Research
projects funded by the foundation should generate knowledge that can be
easily disseminated in |
| |
the
global scientific community through publication in reputable domestic and
international journals, and |
| |
| 8. |
Applicants
must demonstrate their plans for using knowledge from the IFRES-supported
research to |
| |
actively
engage the policy community and the key policy actors |
